How it works
Millimetres are converted to inches (1 inch = 25.4 mm), then multiplied by the DPI: pixels = size in inches × DPI. For example, A4 paper is 210 × 297 mm, which is about 8.27 × 11.69 inches; at 300 DPI that gives roughly 2480 × 3508 pixels.
Frequently asked questions
How many pixels is A4 at 300 DPI?
2480 × 3508 pixels (portrait). Some print services round this to 2481 × 3509; the difference is not visible.
Why do different sites give slightly different pixel sizes for A4?
Because they round the millimetre dimensions (297 mm is often rounded to 11.69 inches instead of 11.6929). Our table rounds to the nearest whole pixel after using exact millimetre values.
What DPI should I use for a print-ready PDF?
300 DPI is the standard for documents and photos. 150 DPI is acceptable for large posters viewed from a distance. 72–96 DPI is only for screen display.
